"Girl Power!" March group show & Cher Pruys solo show !

Dear artists and friends of the gallery!

We are delighted to bring you

Our March Online Group Art Show "Girl Power!"

Ever since it made its grand entrance on the popular culture stage thanks to the US punk band Bikini Kill, the term “Girl Power” has steadfastly held its position as a significant (political) catchphrase. “Girl Power” gained more prominence in pop culture after it was embraced by the British pop band the Spice Girls in the late 90’s, transforming it into a significant and appealing slogan. The meaning of ”Girl Power” is a self-reliant attitude among people in ambition, assertiveness, and individualism. In this art show, we pay homage to the voices and the stories woven by women across generations. It is a tribute to the transformations, the triumphs, and the unity that can arise when women unapologetically embrace their individuality and their stories. The selected 60 artists display the diversity and multicultural experiences and perspectives of women.

"To take my inner visions with my hands and create a work of art for you the viewer... That is the ultimate in self-expression." Cher Pruys was born in Regina. Over the years she lived in many places including Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Fort Frances, settling into her present home in Devlin, on the banks of the Rainy River with her husband Mark, 4 dogs, and 2 cats. By age three, Cher was seldom found without a drawing tool in hand. She worked in pencil, charcoal, and ink over the years, until, she picked up a paintbrush at the age of 35. Beginning with oil paints, she found her chosen mediums in acrylic, watercolor, and gouache. Although self-taught, her dedication and talent have seen her work juried into 463 International exhibits, as well as exhibits in numerous non-juried shows. She has won 718 awards for her work in the International Juried Exhibits. Her work has graced the covers of 3 books, and 36 magazines, including The Best Of Acrylic Fall 2021, the cover of the May 2022 Arabella Magazine, #20 Hyperrealism Magazine with “Girls Girls Girls”, & #21 with “The Young Cowboy”, & the latest, Artists & Illustrators March 2024. She has been featured in over 350 International publications. Cher's works have found a permanent home in private and public collections worldwide.

I am a self-taught artist working in water-based mediums, mainly acrylic, but also at times gouache and watercolor. I am a hyperrealism painter fascinated by the world around me. I am very drawn to shiny surfaces as well as transparent objects, especially when the lighting brings them to life. I look for beauty in everyday objects that most people take for granted or just don’t truly see as they are. The seemingly boring and mundane subjects can truly be like magnets if portrayed in the right light. The shiny metal is one of those materials that can host endless visions….the light hits it and the reflections are captured on the smooth, sleek surface…people and animals especially the eyes...an artist's dream! My future art plans are to paint the countless subjects I have chosen to become paintings and to share my art with as many people as I can.

Congratulations Cher and please enjoy her show everyone!

March Group Show "Connections"

The theme of our April group show ”Connections” explores the artists’ connection with their art practice. The more an artist connects with their art, the easier it is to translate their vision, whether this is a figurative subject, an imaginative work, or an abstract piece. As we immerse ourselves in the beauty and depth of artistic expression, This theme serves as a medium for our artists to express the deep connections they have with their artworks. Beneath our diverse experiences, cultures, and backgrounds, we all share a common longing for connection. We wish our artists to open a captivating window into the intimate relationships they have with their work, with other people, with their environment, and with their inner selves. In a world often filled with division and isolation, the ”Connections” group show is meant to be a poignant exploration of the power of human connection through the universal language of art.

We welcome artworks from all mediums of visual art, except AI-created art, and video/film.

Elevate Your Artist Bio & Statement With

HMVC’s Gold Standard

We are very happy to announce that we have implemented a new service called "Artist's Writing Aid."

We are well aware of how artists struggle with writing Artist Bios and Statements because we review them every month. Many artists do not realize that their Artist Bio and Statement are a gateway to the art world and unfortunately many end up missing out on good opportunities because of poor writing.

So why not let us help you tell your story in a way that resonates, captivates, and elevates your artistic identity.

With our "Artist's Writing Aid", we provide you with a white glove mentor service by:

★ Uncover Your Unique Voice: We’ll conduct interviews and research to understand your artistic journey, inspirations, and aspirations.

★ Craft a Compelling Narrative: We will transform your experiences and thoughts into engaging narratives that captivate your audience.

★ Tailor for Your Audience: We consider your target audience—whether it’s galleries, collectors, or the general public—ensuring your artist bio and statement resonate with them.

★ Edit and Refine: We provide multiple rounds of revisions to ensure your bio and statement are perfect in every way.

Together, we’ll take your artistry to new heights!

HMVC Gallery New York is now offering you the opportunity to have your own solo show on our ArtPlacer virtual platform for a month. Because the artists in our community are at various stages in their careers, we have created three different plans for you to choose from Plan Manor, Plan Palace, and Plan Castle.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in doing a Solo Show with us.
